Software to make thumbnail index of images.

Does anybody have any favourite free software to make those index files you see now and then a single .jpg file that has a small thumbnail view and the file name of your images. I'm after something to generate a couple of index files for a set of photos I took some time ago.

Free, nope don't know any, but I believe CS can create them. Not sure if that helps you though.

Jason - irfanview is free and has a contact sheet option in the thumbnail viewer. It creates this (all default settings)

I am pretty sure that the Canon DPP can do contact sheets for you under printing options

I think that the main confusion is how to describe the desired result I.e. knowing to google for "contact sheet" is probably a big advantage.
