Need new LCD screen!!

Hi there,

Im in need of a new LCD screen.

I primarily need it for the use of photography (editing photos) and occasionally watch movies.

I cant afford an IPS monitor, nor can afford to spend more than $250AUS. Hopefully next year sometime i will be able to, but for now this is my budget.

What monitor do you recommend and what features should i look out for?

What do you think of these monitors?

Haven't looked at the specs apart from what is shown on those pages:
Out of those three and just based on input types, I would probably pick the BenQ.

Totally understand budgetary constraints...

Earlier this year I had to get a new monitor to replace a trusty CRT I had used for 7 years. I was adamant not to spend too much... shopped around did all the reviews and picked up what many considered to be a good monitor for under $400...

After struggling for 2 weeks to calibrate it to my lab (both by myself and the lab) I gave up in frustration and bought an EIZO.

Yes it blew the budget (initially) but there is no comparison.. and I wasted 2 weeks trying to get the monitor to do something it could not (Calibrate properly)

No I have a monitor that displays exactly what I shoot and how it looked when I shot it... and I can print at a pro lab and know exactly how the prints will come out.

And the prices are down from what they where 12 months ago.

The old addage applies ... you get what you pay for..

Simon - Your right, i think its best if you get something good from the start. Im saving more towards an IPS monitor. Im starting to get serious with photography so I think this will be good investment. Then again we all spend big dollars on L lens.. Im sure a monitor is just as important.

So yea im saving.. SLowly

I am getting a Benq monitor. I have been on the phone to them today and their technical department told me the one you are interested in has a shiny screen. Don't know if you know this. They also make matt screens. It's worth giving them a call. Not all information is in their specs.

Of those I would choose the BenQ... just for sheer reliability, if nothing else. I have a BenQ V772 CRT monitor that has graced my desk for what seems like eternity, outlasting several other monitors and matching next to perfect (after calibration and allowing for the different types of screen) to my Dell 22" IPS.
