    Monitor Aspect Ratio

    G'Day,

I'm in the market for a new monitor (22"+) and there is a staggering array of product available. My question is should I get 16:9 or 16:10? Is there a difference for my needs - photo editing and general computer work.

    TIA

    Franz

Mongo has the same problem recently. Monitors are too "landcsape" shaped and oriented. It is very annoying and totally forgets photography as a use for monitors. I would have a 16:12 if they made one. The best you can do is 16.10 so go for that. Remember, a lot of photos are “portrait” mode and a long wide screen does not give you much to work with in portrait mode.

    Thay's Mongo's 10c worth.

Thanks Mongo, that makes sense. Would you get a 16:10 even if the contrast ratio was not as good as a 16:9? The 16:10 is 10,000:1 whilst the 16:9 is 50,000:1.

    Decisions, decisions :-)

Franz, I have an ASUS 241H, 16:10. It's good for showing two portraits side by side. It also includes 16:9 ratio, and vice is not versa. But, if contrast ratio is important to you, too, then consider it. Note that pixel count and size might be important, and connections. Mine has VGA, DVI and HDMI in. It is 1920 by 1200 pixels, so it's good as a full hi-def TV display (1920x1080). Usually, 22-inch and less are 1650 (or so) x 1050 pixels. Then there's the technology to consider. But if nothing else matters, then contrast should. 2c from Am...

    Thanks Am.

I settled for the LG W2252TQ-PF in the end and glad I went 16:10.

    Cheers,
