Pelican Cases - Knock Off's (Bunnings, Kincrome/Craftect cases)

    Kincrome waterproof cases...

    http://www.justtools.com.au/prod3837.htm 430 x 380 x 154mm
    http://www.justtools.com.au/prod5046.htm 515 x 415 x 200mm

There is a strong rumour (via WP) that Bunnings will have these cases on special under the Craftech brand just before Fathers day at $20-$30 off.

I'll be tracking this and will post more as I find out more - feel free to post if you hear anything.

Kym, I had a look at one of their cases a while ago in a tool supply store near us.
They don't look to be quite up to the same standard as Pelican, Storm or the other well known brands and if you read the actual makers specs you will see that they label them as "water tight" whereas the just tools site you have linked them to says they are "water proof".
They would probably represent good value at a discounted price as a "weather resistant" case.

Good point, you get what you pay for! But for 99% of us they are probably sufficient.
But the cheapies are about 1/3 the price

I'm with Kym, these look the goods for the prize.
If I was going around Aus then I'd be into a few of these rather than the soft back back I have.

Yep, as a hard case at a Bunnings price they would represent good value protection, I was imagining a worst case scenario where someone was to buy one, think it was water proof and take it white water rafting only to find out that all ducks aren't created equally.

Last time these cases came around, they weren't sold in Sydney

I sent my SIL crazy looking for them but nobody had them anywhere.

Hope it changes this time round

I have one from Bunnings and the quality is very good, I have unpacked many items from Pelican cases at work, the build quality on my case, I would say is almost identical.

If I get a chance I'll bring the genuine article home and do a side by side comparison.

More Pelican copycat cases at Kincrome

A bit more expensive than the Bunnings options...

You'll be lucky Scotty, the last 2 times members have mentioned these cases they weren't avaiable in NSW. MY SIL works for Bunnies and they just don't seem to appear in this state.

This was written when the two threads were being merged - this is really confusing Kym

I always thought it would be bad ass, own a pelican rifle case. Imagine using that to store your cam gear.

Thought I would bump this up. Picked up one of these Kincrome cases (large) today from Bunnings for $85, and am very impressed.

Managed to fit the following in:

    5D, 50D, 580EXII, 70-200 2.8, 24-70, 17-40

Pretty much everything I wanted in there bar my 430EXII

Here are some pics (sorry for the cr@p quality):

I have that big yellow one and uit has been very good. I purchased a Pelican case insert to fit it, not quite perfect but pretty good. I did find the catches a bit stiff, I used to keep a screwdriver for flipping them open in the small soft bag I always carry. Now I've sold the Canon gear I hardly use the Kinchrome, must chuck it onto Cameramarket.
