I didn't think I wanted anything very much, but I just heard that a Schneider Makro-Symmar 4.0/90 mm HM is being made to fit a Canon 35mm. That makes a macro tilt/shift lens of very high quality. I could be tempted.

    * I need a macro, so probably the Nikkor 105mm f2.8 VR.
    * I also want a long lens and it will either be a 200-400 f4 VRII or the 300mm f2.8 VRII, but probably the latter as it copes better with the 1.4x TCII and the 2x TCIII. Apparently, the 2x TCIII gives superb results with indistinguishable reduction in IQ (as does the 1.4x TCII) and therefore I would end up with a 600 f5.6 with VR. Trouble is, I need to sell a kidney for either of these lenses.
    * I am thinking of getting the 85 f1.4 as a portrait lens.

All very expensive and hence why they are still on a want list.

As you can see in my signature, I have most situations covered with excellent lenses anyway.
The Nikkor 105mm f2.8 VR and 300mm f2.8 VRII have been procured, so all I need now is the 85mm f1.4G.

I recently purchased the Tamron 90mm Macro to add to the collection but am lusting after the new K-5 - can't see that purchase taking place for about 12 months or so unless I sell a child or kidney!

    Sell a child.
Rearing children causes stress, stress leads to drinking beer, two functioning kidneys aid the beer drinking process.
Sell a child, buy a new camera and drink beer happily.

The dream has finally come to a reality! The back pay has arrived and on the shopping list are

    D300s
    Nikkor 50mm F1.4G
    Nikkor 18-200 3.5-5.6G DX VRII

Closely followed by a battery grip and a Lowepro Slingshot bag!

Just waiting for the account to say the cash is there before I order.

As this is my first dive into a DSLR does anyone have any recommendations before I do order. There is such a variety here on AP I'm curious!

Depends totally what you want to shoot. Is actually go the 35 1.8 before the 50 1.4 for the d300

Re flash, depends too on what you what it for. Sb-900 is the best, sb-400 is the smallest

Thanks Kiwi, I was reading up on the 50mm again and thought maybe its a bit over the top. I want to shoot black and white portraiture mainly and some travel/tourist type stuff especially around home. I also want to shoot stock and was going to use it as a good grounding for composition and exposure.

I like the look of the 35 1.8 and its cheaper to boot.

    Thanks again
