    I'll have to try this with some pics - because at this stage it seems too complex for me to understand since I've never played wtih channels before lol!

    Have applied it to your pic

    Can I assume the background and subject have to have a reasonable contrast to begin with. eg, A dark haired person amounst shadows / light would be difficult?

    Thanks, yeah thats right, there are other ways to to isolate a subject when background/foreground are very similar, the easiest i know of is a path selection with a small feather (1-3 pixels) in refine edges.

    ok all worked on your photo but mine usually have complex backgrounds and similar colors so can you explain this mehtod for us also please
