    Photo touchups

    Hi All,

I'm a new to photography so forgive my ignorance.

I've noticed that a lot of photography Magazines talk about touching up photos with programs like photoshop.

Is it necessary to adjust all photos to make them look good?

If so, what programs do you use/recommend.

btw. i'm a PC guy not Mac (I just don't get them)

    Thanks
    Daniel

    Hi PnS,

I think peoples opinions are mixed, alot of people edit in Adobe products and alot leave as is. Most magazine photo's are always edited.

Applications Used alot are , Photoshop cs3, Adobe Raw, Photoshop etc, It depends on what you want, but with SLR photography, i think an editing application is necesary.

If you need something simple and free, Try GIMP or Ifranview. Hope this helps

    Thanks
To publish on the web you need at minimum to resize and sharpen.
    Why sharpen... http://www.ausphotography.net.au/for...ead.php?t=8579

In addition you often need to:
    a) straighten horizons
    b) crop
    c) adjust white balance, color toning etc. esp. if using RAW from your camera

This is without doing specific touch-ups, cloning and special effects.

Think of Post Processing (PP) as a digital darkroom.
There are good free software packages available: Picasa (from Google) and The GIMP are the two big free ones. Then there is Paint.NET which is quick and easy.
