    The Wiles of Skype...

    (No, not a Scottish island )

    Disclaimer: This has been happening to a friend for a couple of weeks

    He has asked me to help resolve it.

    The system is [the latest] Win 10 and Skype on a Lenovo laptop of modest means.

    Previously on Skype he was having no problems.

    So we did all the usual checks:
    Skype and Windows permissions to use camera;
    check camera works in another app (Camera app in Win 10);
    camera is NOT being used by another app/no other process running;
    check bandwidth/line speed (blazingly fast!)

    The answer: YES to all the above.

    Checked the Skype help forums: do everything you have already done

    I have got nothing left to do/check that I can think of/have read about.

    Can anybody here add to this tale of woe/provide the magic bullet?

    My suggestion to the user - talk to your contacts by installing and using the Skype
    app on your phone (as I do as an adjunct to the computer app)
    - or, sail over the sea to Skye - ie, leave the "p" off
    CC, Image editing OK.

    Is he using any Nortons software on this computer? Nortons has been known to cause issues with Skype in the past. Even if it is on the computer, but not installed. Check the task manager to see if any Nortons looking apps are running in the background. It is not unusual for Nortons to do stuff even if it came on the computer, but was never 'installed'. Best thing to do is see if it is, and completely remove Nortons .

    No, Rick, it's not. W POed Ns ages ago.

    Performance then went from a dead stop to greased lightning (relatively speaking, as it is a modest machine.)

    That is our last and most-hoped-for step, yet others with this exact problem report
    no change. Will get him to try it and see. BTW, you just try to find how to export the
    contacts in Skype

    You should not need to export the contacts. They are stored online. Once you login again they will restore automatically (as long as you use the same login details).

    ^ Would you believe - soon after posting I found that that is exactly the case.
    I was reading a MS Mod's instructions on how to find and export them, but it was
    from 2017!!!
