Cannot open Twitter links sent to me by Thunderbird email.

Yes folks I suddenly can't open the Twitter links sent to me by email any more.
And yes, I've looked on the internet for solutions but haven't been successful.
And yet, there are lots and lots of people in the same boat! Crikey!
I also tried to contact Microsoft because I had only recently downloaded a big
update and I thought it was possibly/probably that as I have done nothing whatsoever to cause the problem myself.
But trying to talk to Microsoft is the next best thing to going to the moon!
Anyway here I am and when I try to open the Twitter link I get a message box that says,
"This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action.
Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page."
Who would know? I went there but had no idea what to do.
Can anyone help please?

1. If I understand your lament, you mean that:
"Thunderbird will not open Twitter links anymore?"
(If not, please specify.)

2. How did you open Twitter links before?
Note that Thunderbird is (usually) linked to a (or more) email
accounts, eg, let's say something like "phil777@gmail.com".
Can you open these links by using your original email account
instead of through T'bird?

3. Something to consider: T'bird does not run in a web browser,
but is rather like a browser in some ways.

At this point I'll wait for your answers to 1 and 2 above, but sounds like
you'll need to look at your T'bird "remote content" options.

Can you copy the link, open your web browser, paste the link in. Does that work?

Rick, from checking, it seems like a recent* T'bird security measure.

* It seems to be a couple of years (versions) old already

Sure, but if you can copy the link in the email and paste it into a browser, and it works. That confirms it is Thunderbird stopping it being directly clicked

I just tried a couple and they were successful.

There's a bit of traffic in forums about this problem, and it seems that the
link below has the solution (which I haven't tested as I don't use Twitter):

Serves me right for not reading the whole thread. I just spent 15 minutes working out the answer, came back here to post it, only to see that AM has posted a link to what amounts to the same method I was about to recommend.

BEWARE: The Thunderbird team have stupidly made the ADVANCED tab very difficult to find now, you have to scroll for it, and you have to scroll using your mouse - if you use keyboard shortcuts you wind up somewhere else.

Yes, you are correct! That is the exact link I used and somehow found myself but thank you for your help!
After resetting "False" to "True" you have to go back and reset it back to "False" again for some reason but it still works ok.
