    I’m not sure what you mean here, but I don’t think I agree. News photos aren’t just stand alone aesthetic objects for our consideration - they are made in a specific context and it’s that context that makes them meaningful. It is a newspaper website after all.

    Some amazing and chilling images and stories there.

    It makes me very angry that this problem with fuel buildup combining with drought and hotter weather was noted way back in 2008 but nothing was done. At the risk of getting political it seems pollies on both sides of the house have spent the last decade squabbling and sniping at each other instead of dealing with the real problems facing this country

    By intrusive I meant how the comments were presented over the photo. The way the comments are presented draw attention away from the photos. Let the photo speak for itself and add the comments below each photo.
