How obsessed with photography are you?

How obsessed about photography are you?
is it all you think about all day long? do you rarely think about it unless you take the camera out? are you always looking at the latest gear and watching reviews? do you collect camera's do you photograph every day all day long for no reason but you love it? do you get the latest photography magazines every month, do you check the forums all day long?

me? i pretty much think all day long where i can go and what i can do to take photos, and if i can't do that I'm checking the forums reading the latest gear and watching youtube. if i had the money i'd be collecting camera's! its an obsession to me haha.

    "How" obsessed?

    - You're either obsessed or you're not. There's no degree.

So, I think I fall into the "not" camp. - Hang on! There's "not" a camp?
Oh well, now I don't know At least it doesn't hurt while I'm still falling

Gee, I could get to like falling as much as I like photography!

I try not to be too obsessed with any one thing - except my wife and staying alive.

I tend to think that anyone who has other total focus obsessions needs to get a life - hobbies are good, passions are good, but single-mindedness isn't all that healthy. You need a spread of interests and variety in your life. That means photography AND chocolate, for example.

I wouldn't say I was obsessed with anything, it is annoying me that I haven't got out to take some photo's in the last couple of weeks, but life goes on.
Great comment bobt, couldn't agree more, my main focus in life is to look after my wife & fur kids as well as trying to keep myself healthy.

I have a camera with me almost always. I collect some cameras and lenses, rarely use some of them. I have a glance at various Photography Media most days.

All that doesn't mean that I am "obsessed" with Photography. It does have a reasonable place in my daily life: having a camera at hand nearly always lessens the chance of a good shot, getting by me.

Definitely no obsession for me. I take quite a few photos, but it doesn’t consume me in any way. I think Bob put it quite well.

Well written Bob.. I am a little that way with Chocolate also, today I bought some, well they were on Sale and I cannot pass up a good bargain.
1/2 price Old Gold Old Jamaica Rum 'N' Raisin the Dark Chockie to give me energy, Rum to humm I will have to think about that one.
A bag of Violet Crumble for us both to share, and a box of Peanut M&M's for Brandy our Doggie to give Tony for Fathers Day. He is a fantastic DAD
So how much Chocolate do you eat a day Young Bob. Yesterday about 4pm I had 2 small Choc twirls *Just has todays two* at 9pm 2 squares of Milk Choc and 1 square of Hazelnut Choc

I don't think that puts me in the Obsessed anything, even if I did take 170 something shots of the flowers in the garden yesterday afternoon.
I only seem to pick up my cameras about three times a week and one of those times would be to take a photo of the 1000 or 1500 pieces JigSaw Hubby has finished.
And the other time is for the Weekly Challenge, how come you don't have a go at that

Well that has got #2 and #3 out of the way, and then there is the Doggie she is #1

I shoot with Olympus Cameras.. Sometimes Canon and My iPhone SE 2020

Haha. Chocolate. I probably go through, purely on average, a 200gm block of Cadbury milk chocolate a day. On average. Frequently it is far more, but it levels out on my quiet days.

In the after-Easter sales each year I buy enough chocolate that you could feed a small suburb for an entire year. But that supply lasts me 4-5 months (I know as I’m nearing the end of it now).

I just hope they don’t discover one day that chocolate makes you fat, or something like that...

Hmmmm .... not as much as i would like, primarily because I'm overweight and diabetic !!! I did say to my wife the other day, that the bag of smarties sitting beside the syringe I was about to stab myself with was probably not an ideal juxtaposition!
I visited my diabetes specialist today as a matter of fact, but I didn't mention the smarties ..... or the other goodies I've eaten recently. I'm afraid I'm not a very good diabetic.

I'm rather stepping back from entering things now. I only enter 4 competitions a year at my club (the creative ones) and I'm avoiding roles which require much of my time. I have come to the conclusion that I have a limited tenure on this planent, and there are things I need to do before my departure - which I'm assuming will be sometime in the next decade. The way time goes, that will pass quite quickly. Gawd! It's September in a couple of days - it was only January a few days ago! [/QUOTE]

I tend to plan my photography sessions in advance. So that I know what day, what time and where i am going. Thus it lets me focus on the rest of life outside those times. it also lets me have a bit of balance.. and earn a wage.

Oh and chocolate. I am a purist. I don't like my chocolate infiltrated with fruits, or nuts, or other things. .. well ok, a nice alcoholic liqueur chocolate..maybe. I like plain milk or dark chocolate.. no additives.

I am the same with ice cream, plain old vanilla for me... with chocolate

I enjoy photography and have done for over 40 years. I have never lost interest but I am not obsessed. I appreciate other photographer's work and do find myself tending to look at a few photography websites for a few minutes as part of my wind down at the end of a busy day.

I am not a winter person so put away my camera during the winter season. I enjoy the colours of Spring and Autumn and therefore tend to be fairly active during these seasons. My prime interest is in larger wildlife photography, but that matches my interest in travel, so when I do travel I tend to do a wild life photography adventure.

I am interested in photography gear so as part of my nightly wind down I do check Ebay and Gumtree just out of interest but once again this just extends from my interest in buy and sell forums (habit picked up from the Trading Post every second Thursday in the old days).

I do lean towards to the obsessed side a little....

Have been known to almost drive off the road, after being distracted looking at bird/animal/landscape/etc...

Photography has replaced the majority of my other hobbies, and find myself thinking about composition/general photography often.

Free time is spent either watching YouTube videos, reading about various techniques, or planning upcoming subjects/shoots.

As for chocolate...... either Ritter Sport or Milka

Photography definitely not an obsession, but chocolate, well that's more like!

I too found the 1\2 price chocolate today Mary Anne, so bought a good supply. Plain chocolate for me. Definitely no nuts, fruit, biscuits, alcohol in mine.

I'm walking evidence eating lots of sugar doesn't necessarily give you diabetes. I should be dead. A friend gave me a spare blood sugar monitor to use. I think she though I should be a diabetic. A couple of weeks later she asked me how it went. I told her I managed to get my blood sugar up to 7.5, but I had to eat an entire can of sweet creamed rice to do it She told me it wasn't fair

Hi adadrian, welcome to AP -

I enjoy photography more than I should and definitely becomes an obsession when on holidays/quick trips away. I spend a lot of time looking for shadows keeping a close eye on light direction and which side of the road presents better possibilities. Apologies to other road users

Chocolate? Saturday night with a good red

    Cheers -

I used to be a car nut i would never drive it in the rain ( had an old car for that) I took it to show & shine etc but after a few years of this I found it to be all consuming, so as said previously in this thread enjoy stuff for sure but make sure you don't become obsessed, it eventually ruins the fun, just my 2 bobs worth.

    Catch 22 at my end.

When I have all the time in the world, can't afford to get out and do it.
When I have enough money to do it ... can't find the time too!

Getting stuck between a rock and a hard place comes to mind, but even that's not applicable. If I were, I'd be taking photos(probably macros) of the situation!
