Maybe they have an algorithm that knows exactly what to do to enhance smaller images? I remember someone on here talking about having to resize in several steps and sharpening each time for best results.

I am trialing a free site called https://postimages.org - put a trial in the test zone and all seems ok so far. It will only let you do 12MiB image size though. Didn't read the fine print however.. so..... waiting for the world to end or some such.

Photobucket as you know...put an ugly watermark of its own on your images.
There are some suggestions here... https://thetechreader.com/top-ten/18...s-and-ratings/
When I get more time I will give some of them a shot.

Yes I have noticed that about my Photobucket images posted here with the free account but at least they are back.
Also noticed they never touched the images that I posted here or watermarked them when I had a paid account.

I shoot with Olympus Cameras.. Sometimes Canon and My iPhone SE 2020

So let's do a quality comparison between https://servimg.com/ and Flickr.
    First is via Flickr.

    Plum-headed Finch

    And via servimg.com

Are you able to alter them to the same 'Posting' size while still in the AP time limit for a fair comparison?

Why would I have presented different photos for comparison??
I have presented the same photo (and size) via the two different sites.
It shows how the different sites presents things which was the original point.

Apart from the obvious difference in size I can't see any noticeable difference in the quality between the two, however I think we should let the highly regarded "pixel peeper" Gazza make the final call. If there's any difference he'll find it.

I don't know, and where was that point made? Nevertheless, I can get the same sized image
(899x1200px) from your Flickr stream, and it displays (I think - it's a few posts away now) the
same size as the one from your other site...
Plum-headed Finch by Mark Leary, on Flickr

    Well, they're still my thoughts.

Every now and then I have to tell myself that size doesn't matter.

Let's do this again then with defiantly the same photo for those that think size does matter (and fair enough ...... )
    Flickr link,

    And via https://servimg.com/

Flickr has the benefit of clicking though to see a larger presentation of the photo. Some of the things here on AP like some of the members challenges stuff don't need this.
I think the first photo here looks better in presenting the detail in the bill and eye.

Yep, ya definitely gotta be defiant about this!
My first impression was that there seems to be sharper detail from Flickr, or is it just my imagination?

Well it does matter here. What I was gunny-sack gunner say yesterday and 4-got was to do less visual agonising
and opinion jousting and avail yourself of a simple test using an image editor to look for any major differences.
    For example:

Use GIMP or Photoshop and place the two (same size) images as layers in a file, then do a Difference blend of the layers.

I did it yesterday but neglected to report the result (I saw a bird out the window). Just again now on these two spoonbills
I could not detect any difference in the sharpness or polish of their bills. - Ie, if there's no difference you will just get a
    straight black screen.

If you're still not convinced, do a sharpen on one of the layers only and see what happens.
