Sony a7r II or a7 III?

So now that the a7 III is here, given the choice, would you opt for the a7r II or the a7 III? 42 mp vs 24 but aparently the III has a better sensor (same as the a9???) and much better battery life... among other things...

I'm not fortunate enough to have this system but my mate has. He went from the II to the III & was super impressed by the AF & battery life coupled with the 16-35 f2.8 GM he is seeing amazing results. Having said that I saw amazing results from the Ar7 II.

from everything i've read and watched, the word on the street is unless you need the 42mpx then the a7III is a much better camera... and its cheaper too...

Difficult to advise because we all prioritize things differently but personally, the improvements in the II-III model generations are things that I value eg. improve battery life, improved grip, AF joystick.
How often do you need the resolution? And can you get by with stitching?
Also, I've read the weather sealing on the A7III is not on the same level as the A7RIII but not sure how that compares to the A7RII. There may be few little 'gotchas' in the fine print so just do a bit of research and make sure those things aren't an issue with you.
