Bear it in mind that retailers in Australian shopping centres typically pay in the order of $10,000 rent per year per square metre of floorspace.
You also need to remember that in the US, the States are allowed to apply taxes.. unlike in Australia. So in some states you will pay a tax on things, and in others the same item has no tax. Depending on the state based tax level, this can have quite an impact on the $ from state to state.
