    Bear it in mind that retailers in Australian shopping centres typically pay in the order of $10,000 rent per year per square metre of floorspace.

    On my one visit to the US (in 1992) I remember being hugely disappointed that none of the camera stores in Los Angeles came anywhere near to matching the prices offered by B&H and Adorama.

    You also need to remember that in the US, the States are allowed to apply taxes.. unlike in Australia. So in some states you will pay a tax on things, and in others the same item has no tax. Depending on the state based tax level, this can have quite an impact on the $ from state to state.
