Probberly a close-up attachment of some sort. Don't expect the media to be right.
Certainly it's not an atom, but the light it's re-emitting from the laser illumination. Not a bad
feat to get such from a single atom, though.

A Barlow lens; a teleconverter attached to the rear of a lens ...
Also a filter type dioptre (or magnifying lens group) attached to the front of a lens.
