Wireless home security cameras

Hi everyone, I'm looking to install some wireless home security/surveillance cameras but have no clue where to start - except here of course.....
Anyway, I'd like a camera that's battery powered and can be accessed wirelessly from my PC as well as my iPhone and I'd rather not spend a fortune either. Any and all suggestions welcome

I hear they are called IP security cameras. This sort of stuff.

Be aware that wireless security is a genuine can of worms. A cheap one or network which isn't properly set up might be more of a menace than not having one at all. Wired is always best - though not always practicable, of course.

Let us know how you go with them. A couple of years ago a chap was showing me
vision on his mobile phone of the outside of his house, some suburbs away, from such cameras.
He had got a call from a neighbour of a suspicious vehicle there. It sounded interesting at the time,

I've been using Hikvision cams for some years now. Some are cheap, some are not, you get great value for money though and theyre extremely reliable.
If you really really have to use wireless then you must realise that it is not going to be reliable. Heres the issues -
1. going to your own wifi router? bet you reboot them every now n again. Thats not reliable.
2. power goes off to house - router and cams will go down.
3. people can hack in to wifi or crash it
4. you still need a cable to power the camera

Heres some things to make it reliable-
Get a proper Access Point (eg: Ubiquiti) and hide the SSID.
Put a UPS on all CCTV components - Cameras, NVR, Access Point, Router
Get cameras that can take a Micro SD card so that if the WIFI goes down it will failsafe record to the SD card automatically.
Use a NVR that doesnt require port forwarding and uses a Cloud service rather than a DDNS. You'll get PUSH notifications this way.
Tie the CCTV into an Alarm system, you get Alarm notifications PUSHed through with video then, very reliable for checking and eliminating false alarms.

Cheap Hikvision camera with Push notifications and SD card, vandal resistant and weatherproof in 4mp - 8mp starts around $200~ . Plenty of places you can get them from.
Some models have 2way audio which is a great feature too.

Hey mate thanks for the heads up on the pitfalls of my OP, sorry it took so long to reply got a bit caught up with Christmas/New Year etc.
