    And the lunacy continues!

The Parkin drawing contest in NZ awarded a pile of cut up carpet suspended on string first prize of $20,000 the other day.

A PR stunt perhaps, again? The cynic in me thinks so.

After I stopped shaking my head in bewilderment I then thought that it will have to stay where it is, forever, because there is no way that it could be relocated without re-arranging it and destroying it's integrity.

But then I thought 'Blue Poles' looked like a collaborative work by the local Pre-school.

I dunno what's going on with curators and judges these days in the art world. How a chunk of strung out carpet can be a drawing is beyond me.

'Blue Poles' always looked like a close up of some chip-board to me, if you squint just a little.

That's actually not bad claymation, AM.

Maybe the Trump should have entered his recently auctioned piece in the contest, he probably would have won it with his New York city skyline, where suddenly the Trump Tower is the biggerest building.

The carpet was not part of the completion, just an unfinished piece of renovation, a short sighted judge mistook for an entry.

Hmm...Is it just me, or does the Trump drawing look like a lot of raised middle fingers?

You're definitely not alone there, Andrew, our household thought that too!

PWL, have you actually seen Blue Poles? In reproduction, it is nothing. In real life, it has power and impact. It's well worth going to see the real thing for yourself. I certainly changed my mind after seeing it.

It's a poor sort of memory that only works backwards.

and Carpet Court are delighted with the win and will be including a reference to it in their next tv commercials.

^ Oh dear. Where are your glasses? Look at the picture which started the thread. Don't you recognise a Telepathic Jungle Fungoid from Arcturus when you see one?

Thus far, I haven't had the opportunity, Tony. Only viewing it on the interwebz, sadly. Canberra is still a place I haven't visited.
