    Fair swap?

My brother has a Canon 70-300/4-5.6L IS
    I have a Canon 100-400 Mark 1 and a 10-22.

He is buying the 10-22 for sure and I just sent him the 100-400 as well to try out. He may (or may not) decide he prefers it to his 70-300, in which case we would swap. (I would rather like a 70-300L, though it seems a bit redundant alongside my 100-400 II. I do use that 70-100 focal length a lot. Or I might just sell it.)

    So, what's a fair swap?

    70-300 for $100-400 plus $200?
    70-300 and $200 for 100-400 and 10-22?
    70-300 for 100-400 and 10-22 straight swap?
    10-22 for the already-agreed cash price; exchange the 70-300 and 100-400 $100? $200? $300?

    Dunno.

Just want to be fair to both parties.
    Tony

It's a poor sort of memory that only works backwards.

Tony I have the 70-300L I originally bought as the final set of my travel kit (16-35, 24-70, 70-300). It is a stellar lens but i only use it for it's compact size and weight saving when I travel.

In my personal opinion (using Ebay as a reference) I believe the 70-300 and the 100-400 are a direct swap. They are both worth about the same used on Ebay. The 10-22 I have never owned so I cannot give you too much advice on that so maybe the agree price you had already negotiated.

Thanks Kel. You are the very chap I was hoping might be about to answer this one.

(100-400 II arrived yesterday. Decided to take a punt and got a grey one from DWI. Intend to do the same with the 16-35/4. Undecided whether to chance the 5D IV though.)

Wait until we have done the WTP and you have used a 1Dx - then make up your mind.

Hmmm .... I hear what you are saying. I'll think it over.

Any idea what a 28-135 IS is worth, BTW? (The various brothers are swapping things around between themselves now that I have broken the even tenor of their lives by sending them assorted photographic items.)

You see very few 28-135 for sale these days, but if they do sell I would be asking between $150 - $200. Very under rated lens. I think they were a standard kit lens on the original 7D.
