    Help! WhatsApp Here?...

I recently updated my WhatsApp to the latest version, 2.17.79 (because I had to).

Since then I have not been able to make voice or (now also in new version) video calls.
I can still send messages OK.

Other info: My phone uses 2.4GHz WiFi.
    Android V 4.1.2.
It sometimes makes the recipient's phone ring, but the recipient cannot hear or see anything.
My phone keeps sounding as if it's still calling and just shows "Connecting".

    Has anybody had similar problems?
    Ta.
    Am(wondering).

    WhatsApp Support replied:

    "Thanks for your message.

Video calling is only available for users on Android OS 4.1+, iPhone iOS 8.0+ and Windows Phone 8.1+.
If your device or your contact's device is running on an older OS version, video call will not be supported.
Please make sure you have updated to the latest version of WhatsApp.

    Supported WhatsApp versions:
    - Android 2.16.340+
    - iPhone 2.16.17+
    - Windows Phone 2.16.288+

On Android and Windows Phone: To place a video call, tap on the call icon on the chat screen and select video call.

On iPhone: tap on the video camera button next to the call button to place a video call.

Please note: Only users who are eligible for the feature can make and receive calls.
If your call is not going through, it's possible the user is on an older OS or WhatsApp Version.

In addition, make sure you have a strong network connection when placing or receiving video calls.
A poor or improperly configured connection may result in poor video and audio quality. If you are connected
to Wi-Fi, your video call quality is dependent on your wireless network signal and your network data speed.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. We would be happy to help!

That leaves only the possibility of a "weak WIFI signal", which gave me no trouble till this new WhatsApp version.

    Prelim findings:
N-band or higher phone with N-band or higher WiFi >>signal<< - WhatsApp OK for all calls + messages.
Same phone with G-band or lower WiFi >>signal<< - WhatsApp can only do messages.

Final test: use my phone (2.4GHz only) with N-band only router. I have had it work with the
    latest AC band signals.

    And so...

There was NOTHING wrong with WhatsApp (except their explanations), and all I needed was to
get off the old G-band WiFi... as shown here.

Will let WhatsApp know the full reason.
