Storage of items

I originally had a small bag for a camera and a lens. One camera. One lens. The second lens was kept in a box.

Then came some more lenses, then another two camera bodies, then some more lenses, then another body and lens bag, then I gave two cameras, both bags, and three lenses away to family, then I bought a Lowepro Pro Runner 200 to store the bits and pieces in as the pieces were all over the place.

I outgrew this bag, sold it, and bought a big K&F Concept bag. Everything fit in there well.

Then I bought a Tamron macro lens.

Then I bought a Tokina 11-16.

Then a flash diffuser / softbox.

The bag is now too small again.

Is it lens rationalisation / liquidation time, or just get another small backpack to store the excess items in?

A question to ask yourself "were any lenses/camera bodies bought to replace lenses/camera bodies?" And "did you remove from your setup the lenses/bodies you got the replacements for?"

Everything that I have now I have only one version of.

35mm prime
50mm prime
11-16mm zoom
17-55mm zoom
90mm prime (macro)
150-500mm zoom
triopo speedlight
fold away portable diffuser (15 x 20cm)
4 x camera batteries, 1 x camera battery charger (car plus wall), 1 x aa/aaa charger, 8 eneloop batteries
assorted cleaning things (tissue paper, brushes, leather spot removal)
assorted caps

I've given away
2 x 18-55mm kit lenses
1 x 55-300mm kit lens
1 x d3100 body (and accessories in a small bag)
1 x d5200 body (and accessories in a small bag)

Bottom line, thats a lot of kit to carry. Maybe a small bag and you choose which kit to take for any shoot, never taking the lot?

The trick is definitely in packing only what you will need. I can't imagine many times I'd need to have all that gear close to hand. If I did though, I'd probably be looking at one of the roller bags that open out for easy access to everything.

Could go with a pelican case or similar as a mother ship to leave in the car/house, and smaller bags to carry only what you need at the time?

I have a heap of gear too, but If I am going out to shoot macro for example. I only take what I need. I don't cart all my kit with me.

Thanks for the replies.

I use the backpack to store all the bits and pieces when I'm not using them as well. I guess that's more what this question is about, not so much when on field trips, but more how do you store every thing so it's not a giant mess?

When at home I keep all bodies and lenses in a fireproof safe. The smaller stuff (batteries, chargers etc) I keep in the bottom drawer of a filing cabinet. What I cannot fit in the safe (and I do have two of them) i store in a pelican case (this is more like ball heads etc).
