My only problem is our resident wattlebirds! We have a couple of pairs in the yard and in 20 minutes there are a few fly bys. Do I count each one and how do I know if it is the same bird or a different one!
I fear my count may distort the results!

Don't limit these counts to your backyards, all of Australia is considered your backyard. Yep, you can do a count anywhere.

If you can only guaranty it's two birds then you enter it as two birds only. Don't worry about numbers to much just get them bird varieties entered.
I've done a couple for the local wet lands. 31 various birds on Monday, 33 on Wednesday. Also done one for our yard on Monday with 14 varieties.
Plan to to do more counts as time allows.

Mark - when we built our house 35 years ago I started a record of the bird's in the yard. I wasn't into photography then, but was interested in plants and what to plant to attract birds & butterflies.
It is really interesting now to see how the birds in the yard have changed over the years. With development in the area we have lost the kookaburras, but gained a lot of the nectar eating smaller birds. The constant has been the magpies. And nice that there are no introduced species at all.

Take 20 minutes and you may be surprised at the birds you see and hear.

I submitted 6 lists for the week. 3 in our yard and 3 at the local wetlands.
Total species seen (or heard) was 57.

Did 5 lists - not as many birds as you and mainly the same ones, but I guess every count helps.
