Poll: Which forums appear in New Posts

Over in the 'too much bird photography' thread, there has been some discussion around what threads members see when they click on New Posts.

There is the ability within the software for me to turn on a feature that lets each member choose which forums are visible when they click new posts. Note that new posts is individualised for each member. What I see when I click new posts is different to what you see, cause you may have already looked at some threads that I have not. So every member sees their own version of new posts.

The concept behind this site feature is that if you are not interested in abstract photography. You can turn that forum off... for new posts only. So that any posts to the abstract forum will never appear in your new posts search. The only way you can access that forum is by clicking on Forums on the main menu and scrolling down to it, and clicking into it. Every other member would still see Abstract in new posts.

This site feature lets me choose which forums can be selected, so members cannot turn of site matters, and some other forums, even if they wanted to. This poll is entirely about the Critique Forums only!

If you want to see how it will work, click HERE, scroll to the bottom and it is sitting there with a couple of forums already setup that you can turn off from appearing in new posts, for you!

I have set this poll to hidden results so no-one can see what the current voting is, until the poll closes next Sunday (17th July).

Would you like to be able to choose which forums you see when you click New Posts?

You can already suppress some fora.

    In general settings...
Exclude Forums from "Get New Posts"
    -- :Introductions</option>
    -- :Out Of Focus</option>
    -- :The Test Zone</option>

At the time we implemented this it was decided that all photographic fora should be visible to avoid segregation/cliques etc.

I still hold this view and voted accordingly.

I see what you're saying about segregation, but I wonder if that would actually be the result of the implementation. After all, someone who filters using the software is probably already doing it via the choices they make when picking a thread in "New Posts". Maybe it will encourage them to come and post more frequently in the areas they're already focusing (see what I did there ) on. Since their viewing/forum experience has just been enhanced.

Yes, you can ignore a member. Click into their profile and down the left side is an option to "add to ignore list' is that to ignore that member, you will not see their posts after activating it. They and you will also not be able to communicate using the personal message system

I dont think you can ignore the mod tea, but go to a profile and try. It will soon tell you if you cannot. You cannot ignore myself or Kym as admins.

Yeah, apparently I'm not allowed to ignore Kym. This is very frustrating. Surely we can all agree that anybody who pluralises forums as "fora" ought to be ignored. At the very least.

I must be missing something here.

When I log in I go to 'New Posts', scroll down, and look at the posts that I want to.

I really don't see the need for any further segregation.

If I want to view posts in a specific genre, I search that genre in 'Forums'.

Not missing anything, just trying to get the lay of the land(scape) as to what members think of all this. In the end if the results of the poll say people want this feature, I may install it, but even then you do not have to use it. The poll will close next Sunday morning and then we can see what the votes say. Hung parliament anyone?

Hmmmm, I really don't see a problem but then I am not here as much as I'd like to be at times........

......but if you want to install a mod for that, that is up to you Rick......and if peeps wish to use it then that is also there choice

And after looking at the choice for new post in settings as suggested.....the normal user cannot alter or add to those that are already there and
I guess that is where the problem lies, some would like a choice on which forums show up in new post.

Just my little opinion after the tax man finished with me

I think the gravy vote is much higher than represented here. I'm sure there are more than 37 active members... Those who didn't vote are automatically in the gravy boat
