    Wineglass Bay at Dawn

Wineglass Bay Tasmania at dawn - This was a bit of a hike in and out this particular morning, but well worth the effort. I left our accommodation at Coles Bay at 5:30 to arrive down at the beach by sunrise at 7:00. When I left it was starry and just as I arrived at the beach the skies opened up with rain. I was feeling pretty sorry for myself by this time knowing the hike out would be a lot tougher than the walk in. The sky was quite dark and overcast but I was rewarded with this about 40 minutes later.

    Very dramatic -
If you replace the 'W' with 'T' in When, Where and What, you get the answer for each question.
CC more than welcome. Remember, I can't be offended so go for it. Feel free to post your ideas with an edit if you have time. Thanks in advance.

Great moody shot. I'm loving those crepuscular rays! I love the monochrome version but I would love to see it in colour to compare.

Thanks for your comments everyone - it is quite a beautiful part of the world. I might look at colour later but the first attempts were not at all satisfying so I went with B&W for now. I do have a couple of stitched panos planned. Once I finish processing the Tarkine in Motion images I will come back to this and others from the Eastern side.

Makes a nice and different interpretation. Trying to gauge the weather in Tassie can be an art in itself.

Is it too late to suggest if you walk west over the isthmus to Promise Bay then back to Coles Bay the walk is pretty easy

Cheers John - We have been back now for more than a week - far too short a time - I only had one morning to try for a shoot so I did the isthmus trek then around the Hazards Circuit - that was more than enough! My car was parked at the lookout car park so I had to complete the circuit then drive back to Coles Bay. The last half of the Hazards walk is pretty tricky in places. I met a walker going the other way who told me I was doing it the hard way around

There is no way I would attempt the Hazards circuit in the dark to attempt making it to Wineglass by dawn. Including the walk up and around the bay itself I did about 14 kms that morning.

It really is amazing. We plan to go back to spend at least a week just in the Tarkine. Coles Bay and the National Park were beautiful but the wildness of the West has a stronger appeal for us.

I'm impressed. All that effort to get a photo to post in "not for critique".
Thanks for the effort and the sharing. Wish I was there.
