Camera Upgrade

I currently own a d5200. Looking at the array of lenses out there, it becomes obvious that not having the autofocus motor in the body limits your choices to AFS lenses.

Whilst grabbing an off the shelf d7200 would be great, I'm more interested in the 16mp d7000.

It's got fewer bells and whistles, but if I can snaffle one with under 20,000 shutter clicks for around $300, I can't go wrong, can I?

The limitations are mainly in ISO levels from what I can tell, the lower MP in the sensor is also there, but how many pixels are enough? I won't be printing anything over A4 size, if I print many at all. Also it appears the batteries are different so that some of the knick-knacks that need to be sorted out again

I'm interested in any thoughts that anyone has.

Quick look around shows new body only d7000 at around $549 and d7100 at $729.

Looks like it would need to be a smoking second hand deal to beat that.

My husband uses a D7000 and I have a D7100 both are capable cameras. The 7100 definitely handles noise better than the 7000. Apart from prints, the other advantage of more pixels is the ability to crop without losing as much resolution.

I like that all the models look the same, so you can always trot out that line 'This old thing? I've had this for ages!' . Stereo equipment falls in the same category.

I was going to say D750, same as the D7000 with a few more whistles, but an extra grand. I had the D7000 and upgraded to D750 and was really surprised at everything.

Just held a mates d7100. Much nicer size, much better button location.

Purchased a refurb plus battery with a discount for a hair under $700, shipped to the middle of the desert

Now I wait... I hate the waiting part.

... In general I much prefer AF-S lenses over screw driven types .. the hard connection of AF types is an annoyance sometimes.
But, it's still nice to have more options!

ps. I was going to suggest a used D700 .. but too late now. It is old tech .. but (don't) tell that to the users that swear by them!

The d7100 just arrived. 7127 shutter count, and it's a thing of beauty.

No manual though, I noticed there are a few 'How To Use Your d7100' books out there, are they all pretty similar or is there a standout?
