YOUR VIEWS: What can we do for the 2016 Members Challenge

We are now on the final weeks of 2015 and as such it is time we started getting our ideas together for what Ausphotography can do in 2016.

First up, is our Members' Challenge.

What can we do for 2016 for our Members' Challenge? The only limits are that whatever we do, it is something all members of all experience levels and no matter where they live, can take part in.

In 2010 it was a 365 project and each member had their own thread where they posted their daily photo.
In 2011 we did similar to 2010 but it was a 52 challenge, rather than a daily one.
In 2012 we did numbers..week one was 1, week five was 5 etc.
In 2013 we did random 'objects', like knives, body parts, cooked food.
In 2014 we did photography genre, weddings, landscapes, macro etc
In 2015 we are doing the Alphabet.

So now it is over to you, as members, what do you want to do for the 2016 members' challenge?

All ideas, even those that are 'out there' are most welcome. Over the next few weeks we will see what you come up with, and we will eventually, as a group, come up with what we are going to do for 2016.

Tell us what you can come up with.

You may not be very good at it. You may not be very interested in it.
But if every week was the same theme and you were forced to practice the same theme, you will become much better at it and just about become addicted (there will come a point in time when you just can't help it?.
And that theme we should do each and every week (so we get better and addicted)?

How about winner nominated challenges. Any theme goes. I.e. The person who wins picks the theme for the following week and picks the winner.

Except we don't have winners in the challenges, its all about joining in, not competing

I really enjoyed the variety over the last two years and quite enjoy being told what to shoot or have perimeters to work with.
Maybe a diary type thread where we share what we are doing or trying to achieve. Might be able to bounce of each other for different things to experiment with.

I was thinking rather than subjects as such, we have adjectives so that each member has to interpret it with their entry.

    Words like:

    academic
    boring
    confused
    daring
    ecstatic

Opening it up to more abstract themes that can allow members to think more about the word and interpretation of it.

    Or we could do non-sequitur, which can be really interesting;

Eg: "The Dog is Black" is the theme. You can post a photo of something else that is not black or a dog, but has to be linked to the sentence in some way. So you could post a photo of a white cat. Or 'The balloon is red" and you could post "The box is blue" IE you use the theme to find something that links with the theme but is not the theme.

    I like this idea.

I think both of Ricks suggestions have interest, but I'm not sure they would have wide appeal, especially to those new to photography and AP
The last two years have worked well 'cause the themes has left plenty of room for interpretation without having to think to hard about it. Make people think to much and they loose interest (see how the numbers challenge died three years ago). This year has seen quite a few new members join in which encourages them to join in AP generally.
I think the challenge is to go and get a couple of photos each week. And while it's good to think long and hard sometimes I'm not sure that makes for a lot of participation in the long term. And while what Rick's second suggestion would be easy, if I'm new around here would I take a second look or just

"The Dog is Black" and the Rainbow Lorikeet is flying back.
"The balloon is red" and the Whistling Kite is overhead.
"The box is blue" and I got a photo of an Emu.

I don't like to think to much

Ahh, see you are introducing ideas without even knowing it. Rhyming themes.

The theme is Box, so you can photograph sox, fox, locks
Theme is Moan, you can photograph home, phone, zone.

No photos of the actual theme, but anything that rhymes with it is allowed. Now for @markl; to find a bird that rhymes with sox.

Another great idea. Once you have a bunch of ideas, will you hold a poll to pick one, or will the admin team make that decision?

We will all keep discussing it for several weeks now, till we come to some sort of agreement in this thread.

This is my favorite suggestion so far.

How about a photo which gives each member a chance to showcase whatever is really central to their lives other than photography (except birds of course)
