SUBURBAN DUCKS (Roof Roosters)

This crew has been around for quite a while. My neighbor Jason would like to shoo them away from roosting at night. They are quite accustomed to our presence, within a limit of 4 to 5 metres, and do not seem to suffer much predation. When they have their midday doze one is always awake and alert. They troop across the road frequently, but have only lost one of their number to road traffic in about 10 years. I do not think anyone has fed them for many years. Lucky you. We get so excited when they occasionally turn up at our local wetlands. Still haven't seen them myself (pretty hard to get a photo then )
Reckon the wing feathers make these one of the more interesting looking ducks we have in OZ.
For any one that doesn't know, they are Plumed Whistling-Ducks (had to say that as I love their name also)

Thanks for the full name Mark. The plume is distinctive as is the whistle, which is quite loud when a small flock takes off.

Very much a typical snapshot, but fortunate to have them in file and well spaced. Did you notice in the first how these birds share legs when resting?

#3 also shows the custom that when they are on the move they are not allowed to have all their feet on the ground at the same time.
