Tripod in sub $200 range ?

    I've been looking around.

I like the toggle lock legs as opposed to twist lock.

I want something small and light but which can extend to a useful length.

I like the idea of a bubble or set of levels to ensure correct alignment.

I am partial (from what I have seen so far at least) to Manfrotto tripods.

But.. if there are others of equivalent quality at lower cost I'm all ears?

    Thoughts? Recommendations?

I did get a very nice set of Giotto legs (no head, I chose one later) for $99 from Cameras Direct, but it was a few years ago. The brand is worth a look at though, I was surprised at the quality.

Have a look at the Benro range of tripods.
All the examples of their gear that I have seen are pretty good quality at a lowish price.
Their travel angel series appear to come in different styles to cater for your requirements of toggle lock legs, compact when folded but useful operating height, lowish weight and some are at or below the $200 mark.

There are some reasonably priced Velbon legs that should fit the bill as well.

I have a Benro travel angel and it's great. I actually use the monopod as often as the tripod (one leg detaches).

I bought a Manfrotto MK393-H which is small enough to fit in any sized suitcase and is light but stable. No bubble but you can always buy one that slips onto your flash hotshoe. In fact you can have mine if you like because I don't use it.

My old tripod fell apart so I had to bite the bullet and get another one, picked up a Compact Advanced Manfrotto from ***retailer's name removed according to new user restrictions*** , they had it listed for $199 but got it for $159. Seems decent enough, nice and small folded up and fits in my backpack and just taller than me fully extended.

I am considering the Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT. its just over your budget with a head included.

I do not own this tripod and have not seen it in the flesh, so very interested in hearing from those that have.
