I will be going to Europe for the Northern Summer and I will be
Using a new D750 I hope with ( TRS) either Nikkor 16-35mm f/4 Vr or
Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 VC.
I will be using it mainly for touristic shots with maybe architecture
But mainly family shoots
Reason as well for your opinions
Lance you went to Europe countless times you input will help

I'd say you'll use the 24-70 most of the time, Ivan. Best of all worlds for FX wide angle and portraiture. That's why it's the go to lens for most wedding photographers (regardless of camera brand used) and why it's a staple in most bags (except mine but I'm on the way to rectifying that). UWA probably not as useful IMHO. Hope that helps.

2. Will you have "other" lenses (in which case I can understand an "either")?
3. There will be times when you will wear out shoe leather - kicking yourself for limiting your choices.
(I surmise that this will occur while you're in the Sistine Chapel and are struggling to overlap some shots you
hope you can later turn into a panorama. Look out for the tourist who will jostle your elbow on the left.)
4. Consider the Taco ad: "Porque no hay dos?"

WELL
I figured that 24-70mm would be the ONE lens that would be of beneficial value as I don't want to have
2 lenses ...I am nuts ??? perhaps but most I figured again would be of landscapes people etc and not too much
Sistine Chapel locations.This is why forums opens a debate to HELP.
I will be based in One country so ....... am I shooting myself in the foot with one lens options
Having seen Lance's handiwork with the 16-35 f/4 opens more options
But which one ?

Think of the sort of things you may hope to get with the 70mm end of your lenses? If these are few, because 70 is only
twice 35 and you could come a good crop with that, then I'd take the wider of the two. If it appears I am biased towards
the wider lenses for travel, believe it. I will freely supply arm waving and gesticulations with my opinions

I would go with the 24-70, but on my last trip to France I took a 24-105 F4 and it was excellent for all jobs.

My experience on a recent trip echos John's, I thought about taking the 16-35 but instead took a 24-105, 15mm fisheye and 40mm pancake (a very small and light lens). The 24-105 was useable in most circumstances, the 40mm used only once, the 15mm fisheye was the most used.

I also packed a lightweight travel tripod which I didn't use.

With the benefit of hindsight I'd still make the same choice.

Go for the wide angle. It's hard to get long shots in cities.

Agree with the wide angle suggestions. I used my nikkor 14-24mm extensively when last travelling through Europe. Hardly used the tripod.
