Jervis Bay seascape locations

Hi All,

I'll be heading down to Jervis Bay in the next few days. Are there any places worth visiting for a shoot? The last time I went down there would have been over 20 years ago. My memory doesn't serve me that well on seascape locations.

Have a look at point perpendicular on the north side of the bay. Spectacular cliff views if you have a good head for heights, a lighthouse and access to some pretty bayside beaches west of the peninsular. You drive though naval property so check out the info here.

The beaches on the west of the peninsular are also good spots for sunsets over Jervis bay

It's a beautiful area but there aren't a lot of rugged seascape scenes if that is what you are after - this could just be a figment of my imagination and a local could probably point you in the right direction.

Check out the Nowra showground on the trip down if you get a chance - it has an old style pavilion which I found to be a great subject.

The old light house on Cape St George (Sth Head) is a nice spot. They built the original light there in the late 1800's but subsequently realised they'd put it in the wrong place. It was decommissioned and the navy used it for target practice so what's left is the ruins of a lovely old sandstone lighthouse. Unfortunately they had put a big, mesh fence around it last time I was there which has limited photographic opportunities but there are some great views from along the tops of the cliffs. It's a great spot for whale watching and you can occasionally spot sea eagles soaring on the uplift along the cliffs.

Stony Creek further along the same track is also a good spot. In the same area is Summercloud Bay with views down the coast to the south and if you're prepared to walk places like Steamers beach.

Murray's Beach, just inside the south head has good views across Bowen Island toward Point Perpendicular and is a great spot for a dip while you're there. Plus there's the ACT Botantical Gardens on the Caves Beach Road.

Hope those suggestions help. Lots of spots so getting onto the Nat Parks website might be a great starting point (Booderee Nat Park)

The south head is in the National Park and it'll cost you $10/day to take a car in.
