Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG

Hi everyone.

I am looking for a general purpose zoom in the 20-70mm range. I have a canon 60D (crop sensor).
I have been looking at the Sigma 24-70mm, f2.8 but the ones I see on the web are categorized as DG lenses (For full frame bodies) As I am new to sigma lenses I am not sure if this lens would fit my crop frame body and I can't seem to find this info on the Sigma site.

I am also open to other suggestions regarding other lenses in this zoom range.

My sigma 24-70 is simply the sharpest lens I own, straight out of camera. My usual editing workflow involves some sharpening right near the end of the editing process. With the 24-70 I usually find myself questioning the need to sharpen. From the copy I have of this lens, I could not recommend anything else in the 24-70 range. Best lens I own!

With Nikon version the lens fits both my FF and crop sensor bodies. Canon is slightly different with their mounting and hopefully someone else can point you in the right direction, or simply call Sigma distributor and ask: http://consumer.crkennedy.com.au/contact

Take a look at the Tamron 24-70 too.

Had a look at both:
Tamron: price, weight. optical image stabilisation
Sigma: no IS. weight, price

The price was about 30% more for the Tamron. Good if you could get it on a special.

From your experience how accurate are these kind of rumors. I appreciate this question has no solid answer as a rumor is a rumor but I suppose I am asking from your experience what is the usual likelihood of these rumors coming to fruition?

7d11 rumour was around for a long time it just depends how long you can wait and how many rumours start about the rumour

I would have recommended the Tamron too, except that mine just died (won't focus either in mf or af) after 2 months light use. I had to buy an emergency Nikon 28-80 from Adorama for $35 US (plus $60 postage to Thailand.)

Waiting for the newer model can be worthwhile, but at the same time, there is always a newer model. Once (if) Sigma do match these rumours, then what if Tamron bring out an even better version 6 months later? Waiting for the newer model is a never ending cycle. Buy what you want to and ignore the upgrades. Apple are the best at marketing upgrading, when the current device works perfectly well.

Thanks again everyone. There are great reviews for both the Sigma and the Tamron. From this I can assume I will be happy with either. I am not in a desperate rush so I might hold on a little to see what eventuates or until my patience runs out.

I really appreciate having people to go to for advice based on experience. And yes as I am discovering there is always one more lens to get.

I bought a Sigma 24-70 for my Pentax, and am very pleased with it.
I contacted the distributor (RC Kennedy) asking where I could purchase it, and they put me on to DCExpert, who may be connected, not sure, and DCExpert delivered in about 3 days for about $580 including delivery.

So Greg. Why this lens in particular? Is it a constant f-stop lens?
Yours is a crop sensor camera, and the DC lenses will suit it.
The 17-70 gives you a wider field of view. It is not a constant f-stop, though.
Am(just wondering).
