    Nikon 85mm f/1.4 D vs 180mm f/2.8 AF D

I was growing frustrated with my 300mm F4, only because it was a too big to have in my bag with my two bodies and two 'queens' and eventually decided to replace it with the 180mm AFD.
I had read from a well known reviewer that auto-focussing was unreliable at f2.8 under 40' I decided to test this for myself.
I works just fine, at least down around 7' and I liked the results.
Just for fun I decided to put it up against my 85mm F1.4D to see how they performed side by side.
I had to adjust aperture to create similar depth of field and image proportions.
The 180mm was shot at F5 from approximately 7' and the 85mm at F2.8 from around 4'.
The 85mm shot came later, facing west and had the benefit of a bit less cloud cover and more backlight.
Both were shot from a tripod mirror up, with remote cable, iso 100. Centre area crop.
I have to say in most respects I am very happy with the 180mm lens and wonder what others think about all this.
