    Out of the Steam Age...

I had been threatening (myself) to do it about a year ago...

My Ookla result went from 20Mbps down back to full 30Mbps.
WiFi throughout the house is upped greatly, too

Congrats on the new toy Erny. Great start with the Bull-ant.

I have the Sigma 150mm f2.8 and it's brutally sharp.

Thanks Kev! Very excited about the purchase, I've been drafting some macro projects & will get started after I have more free time. My IR camera is also set to get done next week. Sigh... so many things to do, so little time...

Heard only good things about that Sigma 150mm of yours! I was eyeing if for the longest time before going the 105mm route.

Went out and purchased a AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR Lens. This is to replace my kit 18-55, and gives me a slightly wider, longer and faster walk-around lens.

Just received my Sigma 120-400mm lens in the post! Whoo hoo! No more manual focusing and missing too many shots as a result. She's nice and sharp, with great colour rendition and fast focusing. I'm well chuffed. Thanks MarkL.

I was browsing eBay whilst watching the footy. I happened to slam my hand down on the keyboard at a bad decision from the umps and accidentally purchased a Elinchrom Ranger with some portalite boxes.

It was an honest mistake. (This is the excuse I'm using with my wife. I'm not 100% sure if it will work)

Finally updated the Canon 7D a few weeks(6?) ago to an 80D. It became a choice between that and the 7Dll.

While heading home after a recent trip, a high profile member suggested that I call in and have a play with his new toy (thanks, Mark...)
That, and a quick PM to another member (thanks, Darryl...) sold me on the idea.

    So far, so good...
    - The flip screen is a huge bonus.
    - Touch screen is a plus/will be a plus. Just got to remember to make better use of it.
    - Smaller physical size and comfortable grip.
    - I can now bracket just two images rather than the standard three...Think it goes to seven?
    - Haven't played with the WiFi much apart from transferring images, but setting-up and operating the camera from a distance should be a bonus for that wildlife stuff?
    - I'm not as adventurous as some, but slowly pushing that ISO higher and still getting acceptable results, and more important, a 'higher shutter speed'
    - Canons 1.4 extender works without fooling the camera by taping over some of the pins
    - The 7D's batteries fit, something I didn't even consider while shopping....

    So far, not so good.....
    - The extra few pixels slowed PS down a bit, but I'm over that.
    - No GPS. That would've come in handy while travelling to pin point when and where I was (lost mostly.....)
    - Spot focusing doesn't appear to work the same/as good as the old 7D...
It's working, or so it says, but when you go into 'Live view' there's focus points jumping all over the place..?? I'll have to play with that a bit more....
    - I did notice a very big jump in quality after Mark & Darryl started posting with their new toys, but can't pick it in my own...gotta be operator error, right?
(I wonder if a new lens would help...Hmmm)

I'm sure there'd be more 'Not so good' points, but after committing, it's nice to focus on the positives.

I guess you have fine tuned the auto-focus of your lens to the new camera.

Suspect that is not due to the camera and more due to the subjects being cooperative.
I'm still coming to terms with this camera and especially how to deal with noise at ISO1600 and above.

That lens with the extra 200mm would help them be more cooperative as well. Not as close, not as scary...
