It will have to be good ---

Tokina have released their version of the 70-200 F/4 VR lens and going by the pictures on the site it comes with a tripod foot but at only $300.00 less than the excellent Nikon version it will have to be very very very good to compete.

(I think) It will have to be a lot better to compete!

$300 difference is not enough to warrant the purchase of a non branded item(I reckon).
If it's astoundingly better AND cheaper then it has a chance.

IIRC the Nikon comes without the tripod foot, which costs about $200-ish itself .. so you'd want to compare like with like.

So is that $300 difference for the barefooted Nikon lens, or Nikon version + the extra for the foot?

Looking into it further the Tokina doesn't list the tripod foot as a standard inclusion and it is heavier than the Nikon. I think that there will have to be some considerable street price adjustment very quickly for it to sell a single copy.
