    Nikkor 80-400 VR

I know I asked this question years ago in respect of the 80-400 lens but I would like some input from AP members who use one of these regularly, on behalf of a journalist friend of mine who wants the "reach" of the focal lengths of this lens for general newspaper work and sport. I am not a Nikkor user but I can see the appeal of this lens. However, it would be "slow" for my work but I understand that this is a "sharp" lens in respect of image quality....do you Nikon users agree?

I've been wrong before!! Happy to have constructive criticism though.Gear used Canon 50D, 7D & 5DMkII plus expensive things hanging off their fronts and of course a "nifty fifty".

If it is the new version of the 80-400, then it's a ripper of a lens. Sharp, fast and accurate AF and very good VR. Highly recommended.

Thanks Lance, it will be the new version and I'll recommend it.
