    Shutter Release Cable Question

    Hi all,

I have just received my eBay purchase which is two RF-603n remote trigger/receiver, and in the box it comes with a shutter release cable which is about 6 inches long. What is this for?

I have two YN-560iii which they connect directly to the hot shoe on the top of the triggers, so no need for the cable (see image below to my typical setup). My only guess is that this cable is for some kind of studio lighting/strobe light which will not utilise the hot shoe connectivity. Is this correct?

    Cheers,

    -Ben

If you connect the the USB end to your camera and the other plug into the wireless transmitter/receiver while in the hotshoe (probably works out of hotshoe as well) you can then use the button on the other wireless receiver/transmitter to fire the shutter. The button even has 1/2 way setting for focus.

Ahhh excellent. I would never have thought to try that, I'm glad I asked the silly question!

I was going to ask a second - but why would you want to fire your camera from your remote flash/reciever... But I have already answered my own question by staring at the trigger for 30 seconds... its clear now that the trigger does not necessarily need to be attached to a flash, but could simply be sitting in your pocket as a button to fire off a shot without the flash at all...

    Thanks Bes!

Used it today actually. Took a family photo from tripod, I was in front of lens and able to take the shot with trigger hidden in my hand. Works well with and without flash.

Sent from my S3 on the run.
