    "Jack" makes medical history

Australia's first altruistic kidney donation kicks off a six way transplant.

The historic nature of this should not be underestimated. Apart from ony being possible by having a altruistic donor, a donor unknown to any of the patients but just wanted to donate a kidney, regardless of who it went to, it took an exercise in unprecented coordination between hospitals and operating theatres in order to make it work.

Whatershed day for kidney patients and donors I would reckon.
    Cheers

You don't have to be dead to be a donor.

Education is what remains after that which has been learnt, has been forgotten.

Agree. Amazing effort by all involved to co-ordinate it from start to finish.

Non-directed kidney donations (non related persons donating to anyone) were not even approved in Australia not that long ago. Less than 10 years. The regs haven't even been finished yet but the AMA or whoever decides these things are showing great common sense by allowing them to be done while the paper work is still being worked out.

So now everyone can donate a kidney. Yaaaayy.
