    US Navy reveals glass plate photos from the late 1880's

    The photographers of this period were the pioneers to whom I think we owe a lot of respect. The chemicals, the exposures, size of the cameras and glass plates must have been a logistical nightmare for transporting their craft.

    Indeed. It almost makes snapping away with a digital camera seem like cheating.
