Is there a trick to tethering from 5dmkIII to lightroom on a Mac?

I find it really frustrating to tether into lightroom from Canon 5dMk3
Is there a trick, or order in which I connect to my mac?
It takes 3-4 restarts of Lightroom before I get a decent connection. Once it's connected it seems to work ok...

Has anyone got any experience with tethering and can offer advice?
I'm using a 5m active usb extension cable and i'm shooting jpg.

Can you tether via EOS Utility and then open Lightroom?

I just installed EOS utility...
Hope I can rate the images in EOS Utility. and see the rating in Lightroom...
It's quite important for me in my work flow.
I guess I will know.. in about 10 minutes..
