Upcoming Site Outage : Advice (Outage between 21st and 30th April)

Please find below the email I received from our hosting company. The site will be migrating to a new server shortly. This upgrade will also see us moving from a standard HDD based server to an SSD based system.

    *****************************************************

    Hi Ricki,

This is a notice for a migration that will occur between April 21 - April 30. This migration is the result of the power and fiber path issue that occurred in November at 615 S Grand Ave and 700 Wilshire Blvd 1st floor. During this time our team felt that the disaster planning was ill prepared and this has led us to a new direction and opportunity for our company and for our clients.

Our team has built a new datacenter that will house all servers located at the above mentioned address. This allows Profuse Solutions Inc. to properly setup and provide the proper maintenance and disaster planning that were not present in the current two locations that experienced long outages.

During this 2-week migration we anticipate a downtime of up to 2 hours per server while we migrate your server and network to the new location. Migration will start during weekends or during the weekday during off peak hours. Our team will maintain an open 24/7 communication to ensure your services are properly restored. The process of migration will be one cabinet of servers at a time allowing our team to minimize any large-scale outages.

This plan for migration has been in the works for more than 3 months allowing our team to foresee any issues that may occur. We are confident that we have the right process and procedure in place along with the manpower needed to maintain an open line of communication if your services were to be interrupted.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns in regards to the migration.

    I was thinking that.

Perhaps you could suggest ausphotography be migrated between 10.00am and noon on a weekday. As I calculate it that would be between 3.00am and 5.00am AEST and still not start until after midnight in the west

I'd imagine they'd like a few requests for work during their daytime

They are migrating a cabinet at a time.
We are host on a Virtual Machine which is on a physical server in a cabinet.
This means that there are literally thousands of sites per cabinet; so they are doing their best to minimise the impact to the majority of customers.
Australia is a small percentage of those thousands.

Mongo is often told quite firmly to " go back wherever you came from you ......... "

It is nice that Mongo can now try and do that with the upcoming migration - wherever that may be to.

There maybe some instability (brief network outages).

    Hello,

Due to important network changes to the new facility Our network engineers are working hard on getting the network bugs resolve before completion of the migration. We understand its important to bring you back online, but due to the circumstances we are unable to get them back online as of now, so we ask to please bare with us while we resolve this problems and restore services.

    Thank you

The new network infrastructure and SSD based server seems to mean a slightly faster user experience as reported to me.

    Comments/observations anyone?

We have had a few outages since the migration, and hopefully we will see these settle down as the 'bed in' the new infrastructure and all will be good into the future. We were advised that over the coming days we could see some minor downtime incidents.
