    Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART series tested by SLR Gear

    SLR Gear Sigma 50/1.4 Art series test.

    Looks good and better than Nikon's 50 and 58 f/1.4s, as well as Canon's 50/1.2.
    The Sigma is certain to be more expensive than Nikon's 50/1.4(again)
    The sharpness graph(blur index) looks to be about the same as Sigma's 35/1.4, so if sharpness is everything to you, this lens ought to be acceptable.

    I doubt it'll match or even come close to the Otus in any way tho.
    From what we've been reading/seeing it'll be good, and it'll be the best 50mm lens made!

    I'm thinking of updating my current Sigma 50/1.4 with this one.
    Nikon D800E, D300, D70s
    {Nikon}; -> 50/1.2 : 500/8 : 105/2.8VR Micro : 180/2.8 ais : 105mm f/1.8 ais : 24mm/2 ais
    {Sigma}; ->10-20/4-5.6 : 50/1.4 : 12-24/4.5-5.6II : 150-600mm|S
    {Tamron}; -> 17-50/2.8 : 28-75/2.8 : 70-200/2.8 : 300/2.8 SP MF : 24-70/2.8VC

    {Yongnuo}; -> YN35/2N : YN50/1.8N

    Wow, that looks impressive! Thank you for the info, Arthur.

    50mm is not a focal length I use much, but this may change my mind!

    It's a pity they didn't evaluate the bokeh, which, to me at least, is the major selling point of a good 50mm. But, bokeh is a subjective thing which lens reviewers often avoid as you can't put numbers on it. Other things that are important are contrast and colour, neither of which are covered in the review. Pity.

    So tempting, if only I really used a 50mm more.
