    Most Used Lens in 2013

For the last couple of years I have really analysed which lenses I have used through out the year. From this analysis I have made conscious decisions to use a lens more, or readjust the line up of lenses I had. 2013 was a fairly slow year for me photography wise, mostly due to work, study and travel commitments. It was also a turning point to move out of my comfort zone, both with the genre and the lens I was using.

In 2012 my results were (15K shots)

    1. 85 f1.2 43.1%
    2. 70-200 f2.8 20.3%
    3. 24-70 f2.8 10.9%

In 2013 I sold a couple of lenses I rarely used in 2012, and could not see myself using in 2013. They were the 24 f1.4, 50 f1.2, 24-105 f4 and the 135 f2.0. I upgraded the 24-70 and the 16-35 to version two and added a 70-300L late in the year. I also took the time to upgrade a couple of bodies by selling the 1DMIII (I bought a MIV in 2012) and upgrading the 5Dc for a 6D.

In 2013 the results were (6.6K shots)

    1. 300 f2.8 25.3%
    2. 70-200 f2.8 18.4%
    3. 16-35 f2.8 16.8%
    4. 85 f1.2 12.1%
    5. 24-70 f2.8 12%

Interesting enough the above figures are skewed by using the 300 f2.8 for my son's rowing and soccer in the first part of the year, but in 2014 he is finished so this lens may not be used much at all. By taking the time to analyse what I am using it helps me take away the emotion attached to a lens and body, and allows me to sell photography gear I am not using, freeing up funds to buy newer equipment.

Once again I would be interested to know what was your most used lens during 2013.

    24-105 f/4: 50%
    100-400 f/4-5.6: 42%
    50 f/1.4: 8%

I was surprised at the amount for the 100-400! Although a lot of those would be action shots from soccer that I never got around to working out I didn't want to keep...
