New camera old lenses

Happy new year guys: I have recently gone digital having bought a canon 1100d my previous camera was a minolta film camera
the lenses I had for that camera were a Tamron 35-135mm 1:35-42 Tele Macro lens and I also have a Sigma Telemac < Teleconverter 2X
My question is can these be adapted to use on my dslr ? Cheers Carl

Basically no. Lenses across brands are not inter-compatible. So your old lenses fit Minolta, and your new camera needs Canon connections. However you can get (off ebay) at times plastic convertors, but these do nothing other than allow you to attach the lens to the body, so no electronic or electrical connection, thus they would be completely manual, and even then some digital bodies will not accept them, and the camera will not work with them.

I've also got a good collection of old Minolta lenses, Freddy. Well, lucky I've still got the camera bodies to attach them to.

As for the Tamron lens, if it takes an Adaptall2 mount then you might be able to get a Canon* one. You'd only be able
to use it in manual focus and adjustment mode, though. If the Σ 2X has a fixed Minolta adapter, then it will be like the
other fixed lenses.

Thanks Rick I thought as much with the auto mode connection will look into what convertors are available if any for that body, cheers for the quick reply.

i think sony bought minolta and use their mount
Could easily be wrong but it might be good to check it out.
Sony owners might buy the lenses and give you some money to buy Canon lens.

I have had great success with adapted minolta lenses on my m4/3 Oly, but the cheap adapter I bought for my nikon dslr got the infinity focus spectacularly wrong.
And both adapters from the same evilbay vendor.
Shop around and read feedback/reviews but don't spend too much. You may be better putting the $ into new lenses.

Some of us old Minolta fans stayed with Sony who make some great cameras. Why not pick up a Sony....john

Cheap adapter .... infinity focus ... it's almost a certainty that it will get it wrong.
Actually it's most likely not so much wrong, as it is just simply malformed .... blurred!

Minolta A mount to Nikon F body requires a corrective lens to achieve infinity focus.

Cheap stuff from ebay and high quality well engineered design ... never the twain shall meet!

As Am has already said, if your Tammy lens is a Adaptall mount, then all you need is a Canon Adaptall ring.

Something to note too, all Adaptall type lenses are manual only devices. That is, no native metering, and definitely no AF, but I have seen Adaptall rings made that have electronic chips built in to them, which help with confirming manual focus or metering, or other similar features.
