(You're advanced! I was wondering the same thing about Win 7.)

Only by default sadly, it was my sisters and she wanted to purchase a new laptop at the beginning of the year so I have inherited it and just remembered that 8.1 was due for release and dislike 8 with a passion I would like to consider Lynux but I'm not savvy enough to try it and would be bugging my son in-law all the time. so am thinking about the up-date.

I've got 8.1 running on a virtual machine at work. I didn't think much of 8.0, and I find almost no improvements with 8.1. A couple of nice things, but no where near enough to give up Windows 7 as my main operating system.

Are you talking coming from 8.0 to 8.1, or from 7 (or earlier) to 8.1?

    I have Win 8 on a laptop.

IMO, I think Win 7 is far easier to operate than Win 8

I quite like 8.1 as it gives the option to boot straight to desktop therefore bypassing the start screen with all the tiles. Start button is back also, however its not the traditional one of old. Pressing it only takes you back to the metro screen. There are a couple of other little that that make it better than 8. Still quite different to 7 though. Alot quicker I found but still different. Skydrive is more heavily integrated into 8.1 and some of the layout is a little different but easy to get used to if you have been using Windows 8. I think its worth the upgrade and if on Windows 8 then its free

Well I did the upgrade but haven't had a real look at it yet. At first glance I'm not sure about it but will see.
