AF with your legacy MF lenses

It looks like Sony are getting ready to announce a new camera incorporating a sensor that moves along one axis, enabling one a limited amount of AF capability using manual focus glass. This idea has been tried before in the film days- anyone remember the Contax AX?

Does any one remember the Pentax 1.7 AF teleconverter which is still made and sold in Japan, you manually focus close to the subject then it will take over to do the fine focus.

Nikon did a similar trick with a 1.6x TC too.

Have stopped looking for one to add to my collection of interesting stuff.
