Photo of the Week: Your say on the themes for the rest of 2013

After my recent thread on the Photo of the Week themes, I have decided to let you see all the themes till the end of the year and then you can vote on the poll in this thread as to whether we stick to them, or abandon most of the themes and come up with something else each week. We would keep some themes like the election one, Pirate Day, Sport, 50mm and the Festive one, but come up with new themes for the others, if the poll for this thread says that is what members want.

So here are the Photo of the Week themes for the rest of 2013 as they stand now:

    The symbols series
    Sun 11th Aug - (-) subtraction
    Sun 18th Aug - (+) addition
    Sun 25th Aug - (/) division

    Sep

Sun 1st Sept - a competition based around all things politician and electoral, the wackier the better seeing as we have a federal erection called for the 7th September.

    Sun 8th Sept : (*) multiplication

Sun 15th Sept - Talk Like a Pirate...theme idea needed
    Sun 22nd Sept -Open
    Sun 29th Sept - A sporting theme

    Oct

    Sun 6th Oct - Open

    The four bases of power
    Sun 13th Oct - Desire
    Sun 20th Oct - Energy
    Sun 27th Oct - Consciousness

    Nov

    Sun 3rd Nov - Investigation

    Sun 10th Nov - Open

    The geometric series
    Sun 17th Nov - Square
    Sun 24th Nov - Circle

    Dec

    Sun 1st Dec - Triangle
    Sun 8th Dec - Rectangle

    Sun 15th Dec -50mm
    Sun 22nd Dec - Festive
    Sun 29th Dec - Open

So now you get to vote. Do we stay with these themes or do we look for something else for the rest of 2013?

I've had my camera on AUTO for far too long... learning the ropes on my Sony A300.
C&C welcome - but keep it simple!
I'm more interested in capturing memories than in taking the best photo ever (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)

The mods and I are working on an alternative list of themes so that if this Poll proves you want something different, we will be ready to start them this Sunday evening. If you decide to stick with the above current list, then we will do so.

While I agree, I just wonder if having a theme in the first place discourages entries.
Would Open (with one skills based) twice a month get more people entering POTW? Suspect so.

We will be able to test that next year as the plan at this stage is to leapfrog every two weeks, one week a theme, then next open, right through the year.

New themes for me. I do like some of the old ones eg. the shapes but not others. Think with the new ones I would be encouraged to shoot something new rather than just troll through my library to see if anything fits.

    Pretty much this.

Also, is there any chance that there be a sticky thread saying which themes are when (where appropriate, sometimes surprises are cool too)? Could allow for a little bit of planning and possibly more entries?

The new themes are less restricive and should promote more participation. As such I prefer the new themes.

WOW, 14 voters! What does that represent as a percentage of the total membership?
I reckon this would reflect the voter turnout in the upcoming election if voting wasn't compulsory.

Yep, I thought more members would have their say as well, but we are committed to doing what the results of this poll show.
