Help Understanding Difference - RAW Image Before/After Import

    Hi,

I am trying to get a better understanding on what is happening in LR4 when I import my images... basically by concern is that when I look on the back of the camera the picture looks pretty well exposed, after import I find it quite under. I had the issue again today, and found that what I saw on the back of the camera matches the preview in the LR4 import screen, but once imported I have had to increase the exposure by half a stop. My understanding is that the preview and LCD are showing me a jpg preview, but I don't understand why there is such a major difference in the exposure of the main subject. I have taken screenshots below, ignore my poor pp skills!

Lightroom applies its own preset when it imports. As they are not aligned with a camera supplier, camera calibrations, etc that are applied in camera aren't replicated. You can develop your own preset to apply at import, or for application after import...but these won't exactly replicate what you see before full import. If you have come across a better fix since posting this, please let me know!

In settings for LR there are options on what to do on import, check those settings and turn off any that you do not want/need

If you've set any defaults in Lightroom they also get applied to images as they're imported.

I don't know about LR, but from your description, I'd say that the camera preview shows a jpeg from the camera settings. On import to LR, this image is again displayed before the LR settings get applied. Try to set these to "0" and see what happens. The same happens with my raw processor.

It took 4 months for this to be answered.
