    Lens advice for D3100

Hi, I'm getting my first Nikon 3100 DSLR in a couple of weeks and it comes with an 18 - 55. My baby is due in September and i'd like to take some nice newborn portraits and also some family portraits. What lens would be the most suitable?

    Thanks!

I have the 50mm 1.4G and absolutely love it. Little bit pricey. The 1.8 is cheaper, and the 35mm 1.4 and 1.8's are also good I hear.

That is of course if you don't just use the kit lens. There is a quality difference of course but the 18-55 is absolutely suitable. The only difference with any of those primes I listed is their ability in low light without a flash, such as indoors, where I guess you may take a lot of those shots.
    Cheers
