    I fall on my sword

Yes went out bought LR 4 and forgot to check system requirements and yes I have XP, so back to the drawing board I go with tail between my legs.

So where to from here do I go and buy Win 7, Win. 8, or do I venture into the world of Lynux and if so what is the software I need to run it, and are there other adjustments required that are not to be tried by non IT savies like me.

PS. My Motherboard and processor AMD Athlon core 2 duo 64 are probably about 7 years old and looks like wont support more than 4 gig.

Windows 8 is not so good, 8.1 fixes a bunch of issues for users who don't have a touch screen

Are you up for doing a DIY upgrade, swapping out your motherboard and memory for starters.

If you are updating your O/S you would be doing yourself a disservice by not going to the 64bit system.

If you don't have your original paperwork/manuals, google your motherboard's model No. and you should get an idea of what you have, and how far you can go with it.

Yes, Apple would be nice but $$$$$'s aren't here. The board I'm running is an ASUS A8N-VM CSM 4 RAM slots, still looking up details, and have assembled most of my systems, and this one has been going well for a long time and just trying to hold out as long as possible.

Looks like a mobo upgrade for you.

I am currently looking at updating my mobo, a Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3 SOCKET AM3+ as I've recently acquired a solid state drive and need a SATA3 board.

I was going to let you have it at a very reasonable price when I saw this. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-...item48577e113e

This board is an update of mine with the SB850 chip which will future proof you for SATA3 if and when you go there.

These boards seem backward compatible with a lot of AMD Athlon processors. Check here for your model # http://www.gigabyte.com/support-down....aspx?pid=3809

I made the switch from Asus to Gigabyte boards a couple of builds back and couldn't be happier.

    Good luck .

Thank you Cage for the offer, I may have a slim chance of another board+CPU but at this point I might hold off a little longer as apparently we may have some more cash freed up and that board does look tempting.
So I might look at trying to pick up a cheap original Windows 7 or as Kym has mentioned 8.1 might be a possibility. As my copy of LR is 4.1 I may have to down load an upgrade to load it onto Win 8.

So thank you to all for Ideas and input all appreciated.

Just as well you didn't get too excited about that mobo on fleabay. The seller stuffed up with the specs and it's actually the same unit as mine.

Anyway I've just hit the 'Buy' button om a 6GBs SATA mobo to get the most from my SSD. Swapping the boards will keep me out of mischief for a few hours.

    Cheers

    Shouldn't Win7 (even a higher-up version) be about $150??
    Yep. I was right.

Just my two bobs worth, but I think W7 is the most stable system since XP, and I've tried most of them.

On a shoestring you could probably get away with a new/used mobo, an O/S upgrade, and some more RAM, depending on your CPU.

Being on the OAP I'm a hard shopper, and I do my homework before I hand over the readies.

Well looks like I may have sort of temporarily resolved my issues with my sons old comp., Swapped my Spare HHD into the case AMD Athlon 64 x 2 dual Core 4600 2.41 GHz. processor on an ASUS M2N-MX Plus M/Board. with WIn.7 and now up and running, all be it temporary. I might try to swap the HDD into my case later to see if it will work. Now all I have to do is Load LR 4 and start learning & posting I'll have to find some more photos now 7 start getting out. Yahoooooo
