    AP moderators competition coming soon...ideas?

Every so often I run a competition on the site for the moderators, to say thank you to them for all their work behind the scenes helping keep AP up and running.

In the past these competitions have been photographic, but I am open to new ideas.

So with that in mind, I thought why not ask the AP members what they would like to see the mods have to do. So over to you, it can be a photography competition theme or something completely different, but whatever it is, it must have a way for us to choose a winner (we all get to vote on their entries), as I will be offering up some prizes to the mods for this one.

Mods, you can make suggestions here too, as I alone will eventually decide which idea I am going to put to you.

As an incentive, the person who comes up with the idea I choose, will win a 16gb usb drive.

So over to you, what competition could we get the mods to undertake (it will have a prize or three) to say thank you to them for their help running AP?

In more than 20 and less than 100 words, tell why they are and/or will continue to be an AP mod.

Building on Williams idea, I suggest a Kris Kringle style challenge where each mod is given another mod via random, or non random, selection. Then they need to produce a pboto capturing the "essence" of the selected mod.

    Thought there'd be more ideas!
Didn't want to do a simple bump, so.

Who can lose the most weight?
Renovate a room in your house (before and after photos).
Record and post you singing a song (the voice only).
Best photo of you as a chief cooking a meal.
Can one of those survivor type things be organised?
A poll to ask which mod we should say this to, "You win the prize and now, you're fired."
Write an essay on why television is not worth watching.

LOL! you just gotta luv serendipity!
The other week I desperately needed another USB drive to install some software on my kid's lappies(the easiest way to do it) ... so I went out and got me a new one. Made it a fast 64G drive ... and now this comes up for thunking up of simple comp ideas.

Had this been up for the taking prior to my acquisition, I'd have thought up a zillion and a half ideas for a comp .. let alone how to achieve the win!

But now with lethargy having settled back into it's rightful place(again) I can't even think up of any way to win .. let alone an idea of a comp type.

.. so, how about a comp on how to achieve nothing of interest in the longest possible time frame. This one I know I could win
(but I already got my USB stick)

ps. Mark L's idea automatically disqualifies me, and leaves me no option .......... I'm going to ban Mark!

I'd like to see the mod's drawing skills. Maybe a pencil sketch of another moderator or themselves.

Our suggestion is one that hopefully can help those members that have less experience.

It is "Breaking the Rules". The mods have to post a photo that breaks a "rule" of photography. Then they need to explain the rule they have broken and why their photo still works.

What about a mod comp to come up with the best idea for a general comp.

I think there's some sort of law against that! (if not, there should be!)

What ever the idea is, it needs to be a field leveller.
Give a specific time frame and they must produce an image within that particular time. That way, they can't just draw from the archive.
Make it even harder and make that time frame very short like 15 minutes or so.

So on the 21st of June at 6.30 until 6.45 the competition runs. the EXIF data does not lie.

    oh, even better!

Take the mega-dollar equipment out of the equation and make it a camera-phone photo comp!
    Greg Bartle,
I have a Pentax and I'm not afraid to use it.
    Pentax K5
    Sigma 10-20 | Tamron 17-50 F:2.8 | Sigma 50 F:1.4 | Sigma 70-200 F:2.8 Plus a bunch of Ye Olde lenses

I like the idea of taking the equipment out of it....maybe something even harder than a camera phone....maybe make them use one of those disposable cameras.

Great idea to have a comp for the mod's, i am thinking maybe 3 different categories over a week, for the comp only photos submitted that are taken post the category announced (eg Landscape, still life and portrait) and then the winner is decided by all the scores combined.
Comments and Criticisms are always appreciated.

    Thank You:

    John

How about an "Angry" self portrait competition. I.e. see which mod can produce the angriest looking self portrait. They can then be used for their profile pics for a little while. It can also be extended into other emotional themes (happy, sad, dispair etc) if it works well enough.
